Postgraduate MSW Internship in Neurofeedback
New Pathways Therapy Centre – Toronto, ON
New Pathways Therapy Centre is a holistic group practice specializing in somatic psychotherapy and neurofeedback for the treatment of trauma and stress-related conditions. We are proud partners of the Neurofeedback Advocacy Project (NAP), a global initiative focused on expanding access to neurofeedback among vulnerable populations by training frontline clinicians working in community-based settings.
We are currently offering a one-year postgraduate MSW internship focused on training in Infra-Low Frequency (ILF) neurofeedback. The internship begins with a 40-hour foundational training in late May and June.
Ideal Candidate Qualifications
• MSW degree completed and application for licensure submitted to the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW).
• Demonstrable knowledge of how to co-regulate clients with nervous system dysregulation using somatic therapies and emerging, neuroscience-informed modalities to support nervous system regulation.
• Comfort and curiosity working with technology-based therapies.
• Motivation to work in a collaborative, team-based environment.
• A deep commitment to personal and professional growth within the clinic.
• Demonstrable clinical competence to be seen in solid clinical skills and a knowledge of how to enact a trauma-focused lens in client sessions.
• An interest in supporting clients with nervous system dysregulation, including presentations such as ADHD, autism, trauma, chronic illness, and brain injury.
• Strong organizational skills to manage the demands of client care, supervision, and continuing education.
Internship Structure & Training Components
This internship includes comprehensive training and supervision in ILF neurofeedback, in partnership with the Neurofeedback Advocacy Project. Training includes:
• Introductory Training: 2 modules (40 hours total)
• Advanced Training: 3 advanced courses (8 hours each)
• Topic-Specific Workshops: Monthly 1.5-hour sessions (10 throughout the year)
• Ongoing Clinical Support: Bi-monthly consultation calls
• Assessment & Outcome Tracking: Full access to the RTS clinical tracking tool
Certification of Proficiency requires:
• Completion of all trainings
• Active participation in at least 75% of consultation groups, including presenting a case
• Passing a written test
• Treating a minimum of 20 clients for 20 sessions, demonstrating clinical outcomes consistent with NAP standards
Time Commitment & Compensation
After completing the 40-hour foundational training, the internship is 35 hours per week. The intern will work toward building a full neurofeedback caseload under supervision. A stipend will be provided during the internship in the range of $25 to $35K per year.
Upon completion of the internship and certification, the intern will have the opportunity to transition into a full-time clinical role at New Pathways as a neurofeedback provider.
Financial Investment
The full-year NAP training is $6000. New Pathways will cover $5000; the intern is responsible for a $1000 investment upfront, covering the first two months of the training prior to beginning work with clients.
